Maria Jose Tomas Simoes, 87, of West Hartford formerly of Hartford and New Britain, beloved wife of the late Arlindo Simoes died Sunday, September 21, 2014. Born in Lousa Portugal, she lived in the Hartford area for 48 years. She was a member of Our Lady Of Fatima Church, Hartford. Maria loved to cook for family and friends and helped people in need. She leaves three daughters and two sons-in-law; Alda and Silvino Reis of Unionville, Julia and Fernando Paiva of East Hartford, and Paula (Simoes) Levenson of West Hartford. Maria also leaves her four grandchildren Anabella Henriques and her husband Luis, Nelson Reis and his wife Carla, Joyce Kimball and her husband Joseph, Dennis Paiva and his wife Sandy along with eight great-grandchildren Alyssa, Cassandra, Jaylynn, Julia, Sydney, Nicole, Shaun and Jacob. Maria leaves a brother Manual Tomes of Portugal and several nieces and nephews in the United States, Portugal, and Brazil. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. The Funeral procession will be Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family would like to thank Hughes Health and Rehabilitation for the loving care given to her in the past two years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford, CT 06108.
