Obituary for Mauricio Varela

Mauricio Varela, 26, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 after a long struggle with leukemia. He was born in Cali, Colombia on April 7, 1990. He emigrated to the United States at the age of 10, settling in the Greater Hartford area. He attended area schools graduating from East Hartford High and the Baron Institute to study welding, eventually landing a job at Siemens. Mauricio is survived by his wife and soulmate Cinthia, his 9 year daughter Michelle, his parents Hugo and Melfy Varela, his sisters, Diana and Beatriz; several nieces and cousins. Mauricio was an avid soccer fan and a car enthusiast. He was a sweet and funny young man who touched the hearts of all those who knew him. He was particularly close to his daughter Michelle, whom he loved and adored. He will be sorely missed. Funeral procession will be Thursday, 10:00 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, 494 New Britain Ave, Hartford.
