Obituary for Theresa "Terry" Walsh (Skinner)

Theresa "Terry" (Skinner) Walsh, 87, beloved wife of the late William T. Walsh Jr., passed away peacefully on Friday, October 7, 2016. She was born February 2, 1929 in Wethersfield to the late Wesley and Julia Skinner, and attended West Hartford schools and graduated from Hall High School, before marrying the love of her life Bill on June 3, 1950. Together with Bill, Terry raised her family in Windsor where she lived for fifty years as a communicant of St. Gabriel Church. Her life’s joy was sewing, where she used her professional skills to maintain her home-based business with many loyal customers. Over the years, she was a dedicated member of the Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters of America, the USS Missouri Association, and Windsor Ladies Fire Department Auxiliary. She and Bill enjoyed traveling the country every Labor Day for USS Missouri reunions, and was President of the Ladies Fire Dept Auxiliary in Windsor. In her later years, she enjoyed time with her grandchildren, swimming classes at the McLean Home, and attending many prayer groups. She was an inspiring woman who always had a kind word, encouragement, or prayer for every occasion to share with all her family and friends. She lived her entire life by the motto “Worry is useless, Trust is needed”. Terry will be remembered as a warm and caring friend to hundreds, and will be sorely missed by her five children, Richard Walsh (Susan) of Colrain MA, Dennis Walsh (Sheila) of Manchester NH, Mark Walsh (Ruth) of South Portland ME, Maryann Lacouture (Michael) and Kevin Walsh (Jeanne) of Windsor; fourteen grandchildren, Amanda Jacobs and Rebecca Walsh, Ed Walsh and Meghan Aguirre, Caitlin Walsh-Cyll, Conor, Eden, and Cormac Walsh, Nicole, Allison and Chloe Lacouture, Tyler, Colin and Daniel Walsh, and seven great grandchildren, Brantz, Kaleb, Caleb, Kylie, Lily, Camden and Elsie; a brother, George Skinner of Newington, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Julia Roberts and Evelyn Schultz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00AM, Wednesday morning at St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad St., Windsor, CT, with burial following in Windsor Veteran’s Cemetery. Everyone is requested to meet at the church. Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00PM at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford.
