Jennie A. (Viccaro) Forbes, 88, of Hartford died October 27, 2016 in the home she lived in since she was 8 months old with her family by her side. She was the widow of Raymond L. Forbes. A lifelong resident of Hartford, she was the youngest child of the late Pasqualina (Denza) and Michael Vaccaro. She attended Dwight, Burr and Buckley High Schools graduating in 1946. She walked to St. Francis Hospital where she worked as a "pink striper" for a dollar a day. Upon graduation she went to work for the Travelers Insurance Company in the Fire Accounting Department where she served as a supervisor until 1961 when she left to raise her daughter and care for her mother. She was a longtime communicant of St. Augustine Church, most recently attending St. Luke Church. Jennie was a great cook and baker. She would work for weeks making Christmas cookies for family and friends. When Easter came it was time to make Easter Pie, again working long hours to provide this delicious treat. Jennie loved shopping, from Downtown Hartford to Westfarms Mall, QVC and tag sales she loved a good bargain. When she "retired" from cooking she and Ray were regulars at Town Line Diner, The Place 2 Be and Mitchell's where they had " their" booth. She was a kind lady but had a feisty spirit. She felt you were accountable for your actions....no excuses and it was her place to tell you that. She loved her home and sitting on her front porch brought her great joy. She loved watching the kids walk home from school, policing the neighborhood and spending time with her furry friend Willow, who waited for her everyday to come downstairs to feed and play with her. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bob Turkington; a dear lifelong friend Beverly Diamond, several sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews; many godchildren, cousins, beloved friends, especially the Golino and Cormier families and special neighbors. Besides her parents and beloved husband, Raymond, Jennie was predeceased by all her siblings, Leonard, Mario, Sadie, Millie, Tom, Nicky, and Jimmy. Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 1, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Sheehan Hilborn and Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, at 10 am in St. Luke Church, 66 Bolton St. Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Jennie was a devout watcher of the Celebration of the Eucharist Daily Television Mass, therefore , memorial donations may be made the Office of Radio and Television, 15 Peach Orchard Road, Prospect, CT 06712.
