Obituary for William C. Galligan

William C.  Galligan
William C. Galligan of West Hartford passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 15, 2017. He was born April 7, 1924 in Hartford to William J. & Marilda (Paquette) Galligan. He graduated from Bulkeley High School, Providence College, and received a law degree from Boston College. He served in the Army Air Corps. He leaves his wife Mary of 61 years, five children, sons, James and Leslie Galligan of Avon, CO, William P. and Nancy Galligan of Newington; daughters, Ann and Robert Pinciak of Bluffton, SC, Kathleen and Patrick Kelly of Redmond, WA, and Maureen and Michael Wind of New Britain. Bill leaves 11 grandchildren Christopher and Jeffery Pinciak, J. Mitchell and Erica Galligan, Shannon, Shawna and Kevin Kelly, William J. and Jonathan Galligan, Amanda Kraczkowsky and Kelly Galligan. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters; Dorothy Langan and Ann DeNoia.

As a member of the Connecticut and Hartford County Bar Associations, he worked in private practice, loving the law, concentrating on court work and providing many hours of pro-bona services to juveniles. Bill was active in the Democratic politics acting as President of the Young Democrats of Connecticut, also a member if the Elks Lodge # 19, as a former Exalted Ruler. Proud of his Irish heritage he was among the founders and a former president of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick of Greater Hartford.

Bill's greatest joy was his children; camping on weekends, sitting at the head of the dinner table telling stories based loosely on history, including himself in every major historical event. Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends.


His funeral procession will be Wednesday, (July 19, 2017), 9:30 a..m. from the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave. West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St Mary Church, Newington. He will be laid to rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, prior to the services from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
