Obituary for Evelyn B. Lamoureux (Lemaire)

Evelyn B. (Lemaire) Lamoureux, 91, of West Hartford, CT passed away peacefully at the Hughes Health & Rehabilitation Center in West Hartford on March 19, 2018 surrounded and supported by her beloved family. She was born on January 3,1927 and raised in Bristol, RI, the daughter of the late Oliver and Rose (Montplaisir) Lemaire. Growing up in this seaside town instilled in her a lifelong love and passion for the ocean. She was a graduate of Rhode Island College of Education and taught mathematics, but had a true love and passion for all forms of learning, in all subjects. She became a local Bristol, RI celebrity after becoming the very first Miss Fourth of July in 1948. After marrying and moving to Connecticut she continued to teach.
She then devoted her life, full time, to her greatest passions: her daughter and three sons as a loving and caring mother. Later in life, she worked at Mount Sinai Hospital in the Maternity ward, caring for many more children in the same dedicated fashion, until her retirement. Evelyn leaves behind a legacy of genuine caring for all her family and friends. All who knew her were blessed by her untethered love and compassion. One of her special loves was the Hog Island Rhode Island family cottage where she greatly enjoyed the peaceful, beautiful summer days on the deck reading in her rocking chair surrounded by ocean breezes and sunsets. She was a voracious reader, often staying up to all hours of the morning to finish a good book. She loved good conversation, both on the phone and in person, staying in touch with all those she loved. She was a devout Catholic all her life.
She is survived by her four beloved children, Roslyn Scheid and husband Paul of West Hartford, Marc Lamoureux and wife Donna of West Hartford, David Lamoureux and wife Victoria(Tori) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and John Lamoureux and wife Laura of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by 10 loving grandchildren: Daniel, Steven, Christopher, Jacqueline, David, Lauren, Nicholas, John, Sarah and Gareth, as well as her beloved great-grandchildren: Lorelei and Lydia. Evelyn also leaves her sisters (and best friends): Dorothy (Dottie) Moren, Eleanor(Ellie) Lemaire, Jeanette (Jil) LaRiviere, and longtime friend of all the sisters, Madge Phillips.
The local family will oversee her cremation. Plans for a private memorial service will be organized by her family later this year.
