Obituary for John Joseph Orofino

John Joseph Orofino, 81, of West Hartford, CT passed peacefully at St. Francis Hospital on Friday, March 23, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving children. He was born on September 19, 1936 in New York City to Maria (Ricci) Orofino and John Orofino. He grew up in the West Bronx and attended DeWitt Clinton High School and went to college at Columbia University where he earned his B.A. and M.A. in Architecture. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard as a 2nd LT. He moved to Washington D.C. where he worked for Westinghouse and met his wife of 49 years, Linda G. Anello. They settled in Reston, VA and had 3 children. They moved to West Hartford, CT in 1978. John had his own architectural practice and continued to work until recently. He is predeceased by his sister, Anna Marie Rose (Orofino) Primiani, his brother, Mario Orofino, his brother-in-law George P. Anello, Jr., and the love of his life Linda G. Orofino. He is survived by his children, Christina (Orofino) Taylor and husband Talbott Taylor of Wrightsville Beach, NC; John A. Orofino of West Hartford, CT; and Aleeta (Orofino) Jeamel and husband Adam Jeamel of Wethersfield, CT. He also leaves behind 3 loving grandchildren, Tab Taylor, Samuel and Sloane Jeamel. John loved poetry, and was a member of the Friends and Enemies of Wallace Stevens and also participated in many of the Hartford Poetry slams. He also loved architecture, music, art, history and trains. There were many years spent with his model railroad group building models and laying tracks. Most family vacations ended up with a picture of the kids on a retired steam engine or train. Donations can be made to JDRF or the Alzheimer’s Association. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 at 9:30 am at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford.
