Obituary for Irene Sousa (Cabral)

Irene (Cabral) Sousa, 79, of New Britain, formerly of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late James D. "Jaime" Sousa, died Saturday, March 24, 2018, suddenly and peacefully.
She was born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, daughter of the late Elena Ancensao Frietas and Antonio Cabral. Irene was raised and married in Portugal, moving to Hartford and West Hartford, where she lived for many years, recently moving to New Britain to live with her daughter. She was a long time communicant of the Church of St. Helena, West Hartford. Irene was fierce in her love for her family, working two jobs and being instrumental in bringing her family to this country, "Never a question".
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Aldina Sousa-Fitzsimons and her husband, Rorie of New Britain; two grandsons, whom were greatly adored, James Fitzsimons and his partner, Nena Owens and her daughter, Eleanor and Liam Fitzsimons and his wife, Jennifer; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jose Cabral of Southington and Daniel and Inez Cabral of East Windsor; a sister Maria Arruda of Hartford and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Irene was predeceased by her son, Joseph Sousa and three brothers, Euzebio, Manuel and Antonio Cabral.
Funeral procession will be Wednesday, 9 a.m. from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Helena, Echo Lane, West Hartford. Entombment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours will be Tuesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
