Obituary for Robert Dean

Robert Dean, 76, a long-time Willington resident, died Saturday, March 17, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Derby, Connecticut, April 10, 1941, to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Fraser) Dean, Robert attended Hartford schools, graduating from Weaver High School. While serving in the Army National Guard, he began his employment with Travelers Insurance Company, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. A lifelong athlete, Bob’s passion for sports was evident as he co-founded the Willington soccer league where he coached each of his children, played basketball with Traveler’s men’s league, and ran the NYC marathon in 1987. Bob especially enjoyed woodworking, reading and family vacations to Maine, where he made years of memories with his wife, three children and loving granddaughter Madysen, “the baby”. Bob leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Donna (Mahon) Dean; son, Scott (Kimberly) Dean, of Bradenton, Florida; daughter, Diana Dean, of Manchester; son, Todd Dean, of Saco, Maine; and granddaughter and light of his life, Madysen Dean, of Colchester. Bob also leaves two cousins, Kristine Arnold, of Wallingford and Nancy Albert, of Lebanon; brother-in-law Bruce (Maureen) Mahon, of West Hartford; sister-in-law Diane (Rinaldo) Tedeschi, of Avon; and several nephews, who always appreciated his dry sense of humor. Bob was predeceased by his brother-in-law Brian Mahon. Bob’s family wishes to extend their appreciation and gratitude to his caregivers. The family will be receiving visitors at Sheehan Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, Saturday, March 31, from 1- 3 pm, with prayer service at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Willington Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 161, Willington, CT 06279. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com
