High School Memories

The last time I saw Joseph was at the 50th reunion of the class of 1944 of Stratford High School. It was very crowded and we only spoke for a minute. I was glad to learn that he had achieved his goal of becoming a psychiatrist and had married happily. We were friends in high school. It was an unusual, literary friendship. We were both fans of Thomas Wolfe at the time. Class was boring, so we wrote essays for each other at home and exchanged them to read in class. After graduation, I saw him only once, strolling down the main street in Bridgeport in his naval uniform.
