The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Rita Lickwar can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Rita Marie Lickwar (Parente)
Rita Marie (Parente) Lickwar was born to Fortunato and Rose Parente on December 7, 1921 in Hartford CT. She was the first born of three children, who have preceded her in death. She lived in West Hartford before moving to Houston, Texas in 2011 to live with her daughter. Rita met the love of her life, Joseph Lickwar, on a blind date in 1941. Joe preceded her in death after 70 years of marriage. Their love of travel brought them too many continents. Rita always collected a memento from each place and displayed them proudly in her home. She worked at The Hartford Insurance Company after raising her two children. She leaves behind her daughter, Carol and her husband John Sparks of Houston, Texas. Also, her son, Stephen and his wife, Carol Mc Laughlin of Marblehead, MA and Jennie Lickwar- Blodgett the mother of Rita’s three wonderful grandchildren, Mathew, Colin and Lauren. Rita adored them and they shared many memorable times together. Funeral procession will be Saturday, 10:30 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours will be prior to the Mass from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the funeral home.
