Tiki Huts and Harleys

There are no words to fully express the heart of Mike and all he gave for his neices, Christina and Sabrina, his sister, Toni, and Paul; he extended his family to all the kids at SBS.  A memorable exmaple is when we were organzing one of the many galas at SBS to benefit the school and families of the school.  He came to my office at the time and suggested we raffle a Harley Davidson with a Hawaiian theme to the gala. I told him he was absolutely crazy, there was no way we could raffle a motorcycle at $100 a ticket.  He asked me if I trusted him.  Needless to say, with great trepidation, we went forward with the raffle and the gala.  He, and many othes, sold those infamous raffle tickets but of course he didnt stop there.  He went further and actually built a Tiki hut in the gym of the school!  The kids would stop by and watch it being built.  The gala made more money for the school than any other event we had, probably in the school's history!  His laughter and smiles and genrous spirit and heart was felt by all.  And, yes, he told me at the end of the night, "I told you so!" but with one of his great big smiles on his face.  My trust in him was never misplaced.

Bishop Rosazza once told me that in the end, when we meet Saint Peter at the gate, we will be asked only one question: How well did you love?  I am certain that when Mike appeared at the gate of heaven, they were immediately opened wide.  Well done good and faithful servant... well done Uncle Mike!  XXOO  Val
